PROMISE #6
"Your enemies will be my enemies."
1 Samuel 18:4
"Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul and Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt."
It is said of Jonathan that "he stripped himself… even to his sword and to his bow."
God wanted Abraham to be victorious. Jonathan wanted David to be victorious. And Jesus Christ wants us to be victorious.
When two people were in covenant, the enemy did well to find out who they were in covenant with, because the one in covenant would give his life for the other. Jesus Christ did this for us and Jonathan did this for David.
Aren’t the concepts of covenant beautiful? It is selfless love with purpose. We will go into more detail later about who David’s enemies were and who those enemies represent in our Davids. (1 Samuel 18:4 & 19:3)
The enemies of Jesus were the world, the flesh, and the devil and they are still the enemies of every modern-day David and Jonathan. Galatians 5:24 has the answer.
