PROMISE #5

"My strength will be your strength."

1 Samuel 18:4

"Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul and Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David, with his… belt."

In time of difficulty God saved Abraham, Jonathan saved David, and Jesus Christ saved us. This is all one more dimension of the covenant that these parties had with each other. This fostered faith.

Abraham was famous for his faith in God. David found he could trust in Jonathan and we are to be known for our faith in Christ. In each case there was the realization that the stronger one was there for the weaker one’s good.

Jonathan took off his belt and gave it to David. This was the covenant symbol that Jonathan’s strength was to be David’s strength. (1 Samuel 18:4)

Jesus said in Mathew 28:18, "All power is given unto me", and in Acts 1:8 we read, "You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you".
