Lesson 1: God Makes the World
This lesson is based on the Scripture passage on this linked page.
Have you ever wondered about the long ago days, before you, or your mother and father, or any other people were born? Before there were any kittens or puppies, any birds or flowers or grass or trees? “In the beginning there was always God.”
Even before there was a sun, or a moon or our world, God was there. He was loving and kind, and He planned to make the world a wonderful place.
When the time came, God created the earth out of nothing and He set it spinning on its path. His hand guided it, and has guided it on its path ever since.
Yet the earth was still dark and bare. There was no life upon it and it was very empty.
And God said, “Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God separated the light from the darkness. And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night.”
By day God gave the sun to give light and warmth to the round earth. In the night sky He set the moon and the stars with their soft, restful light. Each had its own path and moved as God commanded.
Some day, when men and women and little children would live upon the earth, these lights would light up the dark earth and show people the way to go. The sun would help the flowers to grow, and would bring color to the cheeks of little children. The dim light of night would be a soft curtain shutting out the brightness, and helping tired people to sleep.
And God divided the land from the sea, and set bounds beyond which the sea must not go.
God knew that some day little children would like to play at the edge of the sea, and that the sun and the sea would make them strong and happy.
How glad we are that He made the sun, the moon and the stars; and that He gave us the blue sea with its waves and sandy beach!
