Lesson 3: The Unforgiving Servant
Brief explanatory notes
Jewish rabbis taught that people should forgive those who offend them, up to three times. In his question to Jesus, Peter increased this number to seven. But when Jesus increased it to 77 He was basically telling us that we shouldn’t keep track at all.
This parable should help us remember how much God has forgiven us (10,000 bags of gold). Then we will have a better perspective about the offenses of others against us (100 silver coins), and be quick to forgive them when they repent and ask for our forgiveness.
So, are you holding back forgiveness for someone who has offended you? Remember how many sins God has forgiven you.
