Lesson 12: Jesus is my King Forever!
There is much suffering and evil in the world, but wonderful things are ahead for those who love Jesus and have trusted Him as their Savior. One day Jesus will take us to Heaven, to be with Him forever!
The Lord Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He rose from the grave to be our living Savior. Jesus said, "I am He that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore" (Revelation 1:18).
Where is Jesus today? He is in Heaven, seated at the right hand of God the Father. As God's King, all of God's delight and glory rests on Him.
What happened when God's Son came into the world? He was rejected and persecuted. People said, "We will not have this man to reign over us." Except for a few who believed on Him, the world rejected Jesus. He was rejected in the world but exalted to the highest place in Heaven. God calls Jesus "My King" (Psalm 2:6).
The Lord Jesus promised His believers that they would be with Him in Heaven forever, but He also told us that we would have many troubles in this world. Jesus said, "…In the world you shall have tribulation [many troubles]: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).
Jesus told us how to live. He said, "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who treat you badly and persecute you, that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father who is in heaven…" (Matthew 5:44,45).
Jesus has promised to be with us always. He said, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). We can boldly say, "The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man can do to me" (Hebrews 13:6). The worst thing anyone can do to us is kill the body, which is just the "house" in which we live. For a Christian to die is "gain," because he goes straight to be with Christ in Heaven.
The apostle Paul is our example of how to live the Christian life. Paul had one great goal in life—to please the Lord Jesus. Paul did three things that greatly pleased the Lord:
- He loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart. He was willing to suffer and die for Jesus.
- He made Jesus King in his heart. He wanted the Lord Jesus to be on the throne of his heart, not SELF.
- He let Christ live His life in him, so that others saw Christ in him, not SELF. Paul said, "For me to live is Christ [living His life in me], and to die is gain [to be with Christ in Heaven]" (Philippians 1:21).
As King, Jesus Christ, is coming to this earth again!
This time He will not come as the lowly, suffering Savior; instead, He will come in great power and glory. He is coming to take His believers to be with Him in Heaven.
When is Jesus coming? No one knows exactly when Jesus will come, but the Lord Jesus gave us some signs of His coming:
- There will be many wars. Jesus said, "You shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you are not troubled: for all these things must come to pass…"
- There will be many natural disasters. Jesus said, "…there shall be famines and pestilences [diseases], and earthquakes in many places" (Matthew 24:7).
When Jesus comes, all believers—those who have died and those who are living—will go to be with Him in Heaven. Those who have been faithful to the Lord Jesus will receive rewards.
After believers have gone to Heaven with Jesus, a wicked man, called "the Antichrist," will rule the world. He will deceive the world into worshiping him. This will be the most terrible time the world has ever seen. Millions of people will be killed.
At God's appointed time, the Lord Jesus will return to the earth with His believers and His mighty angels. He will come in great power and glory. He will destroy the Antichrist and his followers and put an end to this time of fear and terror.
After the Antichrist is destroyed, the Lord Jesus will reign on the earth for a thousand years, and the believers will reign with Him. The Bible says, "…they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years" (Revelation 20:4). During the thousand year reign of Christ, Satan will be bound in chains. He will not be able to tempt people or to cause trouble on the earth.
God's Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, will rule the world in righteousness. The Bible says, "The Lord shall be King over all the earth…And He will judge the world in righteousness" (Zechariah 14:9, Psalm 9:8).
There will be no wars, no hunger, no disease. All people will live together in peace and harmony. Everyone will have plenty of food. All children will be taught about the Lord. Everyone, from the greatest to the least, will know that Jesus Christ is King over all the earth. The Bible says, "The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:9). After the thousand year reign of Christ, Satan will be set free from his prison for a time. He will again go out and deceive many people.
Once again, Satan and his followers will rebel against God and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. This time, fire will come down from Heaven to destroy them. Satan will be cast into the lake of fire, and he will be there forever. Never again will Satan be able to cause trouble. The Bible says, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire…" (Revelation 20:10).
After these things, God will create a new universe, a new heaven and a new earth. The Lord Jesus Christ will reign forever as King in God's new universe, and we will reign with Him for ever and ever. He will fill the universe with the glory of God and the love of God.
The Lord Jesus knows me! He knows my name. He knows where I live. He knows about all my problems. He knows my thoughts. He knows everything about me! He even knows how many hairs I have on my head! I am very important to Him!
The Lord Jesus lives in me. Christ is in Heaven today, seated at the right hand of God, but He lives in me by His Spirit. The Bible says, "Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts…" (Galatians 4:6).
The Lord Jesus loves me with all His heart. He loves me so much that He gave His life for me. I can say with the apostle Paul, "the Son of God loved ME and gave Himself for ME" (Galatians 2:20).
The Lord Jesus has a right to me. I belong to Him. I was a slave in Satan's kingdom of darkness, but Jesus redeemed me. He bought me with His own precious blood. I belong to Him forever.
The Lord Jesus loves me so much that He wants me to be with Him forever. Jesus called Heaven "My Father's house." He wants me in the Father's house with Him forever.
This world is not our home; Heaven is our home! Soon we will be with Jesus in Heaven forever. We cannot imagine how wonderful Heaven will be. The Bible says,
"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them that love Him"
(1 Corinthians 2:9).
The King is coming! He may come at any time. I want to be ready for my King when He comes. My goal is to please Him in all that I say and do. Here are some things that will please the Lord Jesus:
I will love the Lord Jesus with all my heart. I will show my love for the Lord Jesus by obeying Him. He wants me to love and obey the people He puts over me—my parents and teachers. He wants me to love other people and pray for them, even my enemies. He wants me to be kind to everybody.
I will make Jesus King in my heart. I belong to Jesus. He has the right to be King in my life. I want the Lord Jesus to always be on the throne of my heart, not SELF.
I will let the Lord Jesus Christ live His life in me. "For to me to live is Christ [living His life in me], and to die is gain." I want other people to see the beautiful life of Christ in me, not my SELF-life. This greatly pleases my King.
